Year 5
Welcome to Year 5
Ms Holmes and Mr Harvey are happy to be welcoming you all to the Year 5 classes of Isham and Althorp. Working alongside us are Miss Tipler and Mrs Cucuvanu, our Learning Support Assistants. Mrs Richards and Mr Dalton, our HLTAs, also work with the Year 5 team to teach sessions during the week and so you may see them at the end of the day.
In Year 5, we have a varied and exciting curriculum where we will develop our knowledge and skills. The subjects and units covered our outlined on our termly Curriculum Overviews.
PE
PE will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays – please make sure you have the correct PE kit in school for these days and ensure that all jewellery is removed. If you have long hair, please remember to tie it back for or bring in a hairband for your PE sessions. Those that have been invited to attend swimming lessons during the Autumn Term, will need the appropriate kit on a Thursday morning.
Reading
There is growing evidence that illustrates the importance of reading for pleasure for educational purposes and personal development. In Year 5, it is an expectation that all children will read regularly at home and that Reading Records are handed in on a Thursday for inspection. We ask that everyone reads for 10 minutes a day and that this is confirmed with a signature and/or a comment from an adult in order to achieve 5 reads per week.
Homework
Homework will be set weekly, with English and Maths homework given on a Friday and due in on the following Wednesday. Maths tasks will be online using MyMaths and TTRockstars. All pupils will be provided with personal logins for these sites. For those that are unable to access the internet, there will be opportunities for pupils to complete tasks on a Monday lunchtime. English homework will be paper based with tasks to be completed in a book. All homeworks are intended to consolidate understanding of concepts delivered in class or to develop specific skills. Parental support is much appreciated.
As well as working hard, there is lots of fun to be had in Year 5 and opportunities to take on roles of responsibility to support others. The Year 5 team are looking forward to working with you all and look forward to inviting you into the classroom during our Fantastic Finish Fridays. If you have any questions, please feel free to speak to a member of the Year 5 team.
