Welcome to Year 6
Welcome to Year 6! We have lots of hard work to do this year but there are plenty of opportunities to have fun along the way!
Mrs Worth is the Year 6 class teacher and Mr Dalton covers the class on a couple of afternoons each week. We are very fortunate to have Miss Tipler and Miss Simpson working to support the class too. Mrs Arkell also works with Y6 taking intervention groups.
Year 6 is a training year for Year 7 so we encourage the children to take as much responsibility for themselves, and their belongings, as possible. Children are expected to read 5 times a week at least and can be responsible for recording this in their reading diaries. Even though children will enjoy being independent readers we still ask that you listen to your child read a couple of times a week so that you are able to question them on what they have read. They are also responsible for completing and returning homework which will be given out on a Friday. Spelling tests will also take place on a Friday and multiplication tests will be on a Monday.
P.E. will take place on Wednesday afternoons with Mr Dalton. Earrings must be removed for PE. Both indoor and outdoor kit will be required. Children are responsible for ensuring that their P.E. kit is in school on the correct day.
Year 6 children are required to sit the SATS tests in May in Maths, Reading and SPAG (spelling, punctuation and grammar). We will help the children to prepare for these tests, and we do expect the children to work hard, however all we ask is that the children simply try their best. Most children actually enjoy taking the tests by the time they come around in May!
The Year 6 team look forward to working with you this year. If there are any questions then please come and see us!
