Welcome to Year 4 page!

In Year 4 we have two classes, Brixworth and Denton. Brixworth’s teacher this year is Mr Harvey and Denton’s teacher is Mrs Hill. Miss O'Donovan, Ms Kamau and Miss Russell are our teaching assistants. Mrs Lightfoot and Mrs Richards will be covering during the week in both Brixworth and Denton too, so you may see their faces at the end of the day as well.

We are always very busy in Year 4 and have lots of exciting (as well as important) things planned for the year! Please see the termly curriculum overviews for more details.

Reading

In Year 4 children are expected to read every day at home during the week. They have all been assigned books appropriate to their reading ability which they may change on Mondays and Thursdays. Please try and listen to your child read 5 times a week as this helps with phonics, comprehension and has a positive impact on their writing!

Multiplication Check

At the end of the year, Year 4 children will be taking a statutory online multiplication test which consists of 25 questions. The children will have 6 seconds only to answer each question so it is vital that they can recall the times tables quickly and accurately. They are expected to know all tables up 12 x 12 by the end of Year 4, therefore regular practice at home is essential.

PE

PE will be on Mondays and Thursdays. Please ensure that on those days your child has their PE kit in school, long hair tied back and earrings out. The children also attend swimming classes in Year 4 as part of the PE curriculum.

Healthy snacks

In Year 4 the children will need to bring their own healthy snack in for break time. This will need to be a piece or fruit or some vegetables only. Biscuits, chocolates or sweets are not permitted.
