Welcome to Year 3
Welcome to our page all about Year 3, like most years we are always very busy and have lots of exciting (as well as important) things planned for the year! In Year 3 we have two classes, Moulton and Pitsford.
In Moulton there is Mr Gompertz (Class Teacher) and Miss Reid (Teaching Assistant).
In Pitsford there is Mrs Mann (Class Teacher) and Mrs Jameson (Teaching Assistant).
Mrs Lightfoot and Mr Dalton will be covering during the week in both classes, and taking the children swimming.
In Year 3 we try and encourage the children to be more responsible for their belongings, it is their responsibility to bring their reading books in every day and to choose a new book if they need to. We try and read with them when we can to assess their reading levels. Your child will read with an adult in school however, this is not always recorded in their home reading diary but in our school records and guided reading sessions. Please try and listen to your child read 5 times a week, this helps with phonics, comprehension and has a positive impact on their writing! We do want your children to make as much progress as possible, so we want them to read as much as possible, but we understand it is not always easy. However in Year 3 if your child does not read 3 times in a week, there will be a consequence of moving their name down and missing 5 minutes of their play time.
Spellings will be tested once a week. The tests will be carried out in a spelling book which will go home so that you can see how your child got on with each test. These will be tested on a Friday and new spellings will be given out on the same day.
Times Table Challenge
This year we will introduce Multiples Marathon. All children will be taught and tested on multiplication and division facts in class. The test will take place once a week on Fridays. As this is something new, all children will start on the same times table, and then progress as they complete each test. The children will all start learning the multiplication and division facts for the 2 times table. They will then have a test of 13 questions in 1 minute. If they get these all right, they will then move on to the next challenge. The tests will get progressively harder as your child moves through the different times tables.
Our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday, please make sure that your child has a named PE kit in school and that they have their hair tied back with earrings taken out in advance if this is not something they can do independently.
