Year 3

Welcome to Year 3

Welcome back! We are very much looking forward to working with you all over the coming year. In Year 3, we have two classes - Moulton, which is taught by Mrs. Mann and Pitsford, which is taught by Mrs. McDermott and Mrs. Thind. Both classes this year are supported by Mrs. Sidebottom. On a Wednesday afternoon, Mr. Dalton and Mrs. Lightfoot will be covering Year 3 in both classes, so you may see their faces at the end of the day!

In Year 3, we expect the children to be as independent and responsible for their belongings and their learning as possible. It is their responsibility to make sure that they read five times a week and complete any homework which has been set to support their learning.

Reading in Year 3

The children will be able to change their reading book twice a week. When they have read at home, their journal must be signed by an adult. Please feel free to write comments in the journal too, regarding your child’s reading. They will need to bring their reading book and journal to
school every day, as they will also have lots of opportunities to read and enjoy books throughout the week at school. It is expected that, although the children’s reading books won’t be changed every day, they still aim to read every night at home to achieve their five home reads a week.

Additional information

PE will be on Wednesday and Friday. Please ensure that on these days your child has their P.E. kit in school, that long hair is tied back and earrings have been removed. If a child comes to school wearing earrings and is unable to remove them, they will be unable to join in with the P.E.
lesson as in line with the school’s P.E. policy.

In Year 3, the children will need to bring in their own healthy snack to eat during break time. This may be a piece of fruit or vegetables in a disposable bag or pot. They can also bring in a water bottle, this will stay in the classroom and can be used throughout the day.

Finally, please could you ensure that all of your child’s uniform, including P.E kits, coats and any other items, are named. This enables the children to be much more independent and responsible for looking after their property and we can give things back to the right people.

If you have any questions regarding anything to do with the school day or your child’s learning, please feel free to speak to a member of the Year 3 team.
