Year 3 & 4
Welcome back! We are very much looking forward to working with you all over the coming year. In Year 3/4, we have three classes - Denton, which is taught by Mrs Mann, Brixworth, which is taught by Mrs Johnson and Pitsford, which is taught by Mrs Kinton. All three classes are supported by Mrs. Sidebottom, Miss. Simpson, Mrs. Jeffrey and Miss. O’Donovan. On a Wednesday morning, Mrs. Richards, Mrs. McDermott and Mr. Dalton will be covering Year 3/4 during PPA times.
In Year 3/4, we expect the children to be independent and responsible for their belongings and their learning. It is their responsibility to make sure that they complete any homework which has been set to support their learning.
Reading in Year 3/4
In Year 3/4 children are expected to read 5 times at home during the week. They have all been assigned books appropriate to their reading ability which they may change when needed. Please try and listen to your child read 5 times a week as this helps with phonics, comprehension and
has a positive impact on their writing!
Multiplication Practice
At the end of the year, Year 4 children will be taking a statutory online multiplication test which consists of 25 questions. The children will have 6 seconds only to answer each question so it is vital that they can recall the times tables quickly and accurately. They are expected to know all
tables up to 12 x 12 by the end of Year 4, therefore regular practice at home is essential. Year 3 and 4 children all have accounts with TT Rockstars and there is an expectation that all children are regularly accessing this website and are learning their multiplication facts. Children will be tested during the school week on what they have learnt.
Spellings
Spellings are sent home once a fortnight. These need to be practised and learnt at home. Spelling tests in school will happen once a fortnight.
PE
PE will be on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Please ensure that on those days your child has their PE kit in school, long hair must be tied back and earrings out. The children also attend swimming classes in Year 4 as part of the PE curriculum.
Healthy snacks
In Year 3/4 the children will need to bring their own healthy snack in for break time. This will need to be a piece or fruit or some vegetables only. Biscuits, chocolates or sweets are not permitted.
Please ensure your child has a named water bottle that they can drink from during the course of the day.
Additional information
Finally, please could you ensure that all of your child’s uniform, including P.E kits, coats and any other items, are named. This enables the children to be much more independent and responsible for looking after their property and we can give things back to the right people.
If you have any questions regarding anything to do with the school day or your child’s learning, please feel free to speak to a member of the Year 3/4 team.
We will be very busy in Year 3/4 and have lots of exciting (as well as important) things planned for the year! Please see the termly curriculum overviews for more details.
